Damaged or Defective 2.8 PiTFT Resistive

by daventinc on Wed Oct 11, 2017 9:30 pm

I bought a new Pi 3 and 2.8 PiTFT (2298) on 10/4 order number 1559660-0439143776. The soft sided bubble package received some type of physical impact or otherwise that caused the GPIO pins to be bent and was replaced by you. After receiving the new Pi 3 and attempting to install the PiTFT, the display is completely unresponsive and never powers up or initializes when using either of the prebuilt Jessie images or by running through the easy or detailed installation instructions with multiple versions of archived Jessie builds from the official archives. The full build ultimately freezes at the initial Pixel image screen at the rc-local.service. When using the lite image ad I can get into SSH but the screen never powers up or initializes. If I attempt to force the PiTFT on by running
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
sudo mv /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-fbturbo.conf ~
export FRAMEBUFFER=/dev/fb1

I get an error that no screen is found even though its fully attached

I have read every forum post and have not found any workable solution that applies to my issue.

Check that the ribbon cable is fully inserted and secure:

Post the output from sudo dmesg. The PiTFT drivers should load within he first 10 seconds or so.

Make sure that the PiTFT is plugged into the Pi properly. It's real easy to get it offset by a pin.
