RGB LED water fountain lights

by mauisam on Thu Oct 12, 2017 3:04 pm

I have a five tier water fountain and the lights have burned out. I think I would like to replace them with five NeoPixel Stick - 8 x 5050 RGB LED daisy chained. Although it doesn't have to that LED. Each fountain bowel is oval and approximately 4" x 8". What sort of clear tubing did you use for the Citi Bike Helmet and or should I use NeverWet? I already have a Gemma and a Pi Zero, but would like to power it continuously and switch it on when the water pump turns on.

I don't think NeverWet would hold up under water long-term. The CitiBike helmet project used the NeoPixel strip that comes encased in a silicone sheath. For something like a Neopixcel stick, you could probably use a length of thin-wall silicone tubing and seal the ends with RTV silicone. (Use the type rated for electrical or aquarium use. The more common acid-cure types will attack the copper in the circuit board).
