Do I need a 0.1 μF capacitor for using my individual neopixe

Post by martian »

So I bought these two products hoping to experiment with individual NeoPixels:

Individual 5050 NeoPixel 10-pack
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2760

Adafruit recommended breakout PCB
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1762

Neither product description mentions needing a capacitor, nor does the pcb seem meant to accommodate one, but after receiving them today, I went to read about setting them up and noted this on the NeoPixel guide:
It’s very strongly recommended that each NeoPixel have an accompanying 0.1 μF capacitor between +V and ground. This prevents communication problems due to brownout of the on-pixel driver logic. It’s occasionally sufficient to have one capacitor between pairs of pixels; some of our NeoPixel rings work that way.
There seem to be a bunch of raw NeoPixel products sold, so I don't know if this necessarily applies to my product as well.

Anyone know for sure?

I'm bummed if so, because I probably would've went for a different item if the product page had spelled that out.

Thanks in advance for any input!
