PITFT Plus 3.2'' resistive with Pi Zero W - not working

by mzacodi on Fri Nov 03, 2017 2:23 am

Hello,

I have PiTFT Plus 320x240 3.2" TFT + Resistive Touchscreen[ID:2616] and Raspberry Pi Zero W[ID:3400]

Running Raspbian GNU/Linux 9.1 (stretch)

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ uname -a
Linux raspberrypi 4.9.59+ #1047 Sun Oct 29 11:47:10 GMT 2017 armv6l GNU/Linux

Followed instructions from
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pit ... stallation

When I turn it on - the Pi Zero W works fine, but PITFT shows nothing but white backlight.

Did "modprobe fbtft_device name=adafruit28", got the following in dmesg:

[ 256.049828] spidev spi0.1: spidev spi0.1 125000kHz 8 bits mode=0x00
[ 256.049883] bcm2708_fb soc:fb: soc:fb id=-1 pdata? no
[ 256.365221] graphics fb1: fb_ili9341 frame buffer, 240x320, 150 KiB video memory, 16 KiB DMA buffer memory, fps=20, spi0.0 at 32 MHz
[ 256.365275] fbtft_device: GPIOS used by 'adafruit28':
[ 256.365282] fbtft_device: 'reset' = GPIO25
[ 256.365286] fbtft_device: 'dc' = GPIO24
[ 256.365290] fbtft_device: 'led' = GPIO18
[ 256.365305] spidev spi0.1: spidev spi0.1 125000kHz 8 bits mode=0x00
[ 256.365315] fb_ili9341 spi0.0: fb_ili9341 spi0.0 32000kHz 8 bits mode=0x00

I also tried the easy install described in https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pit ... sy-install and burned Jessie-based image, but the Pi Zeror W did not boot at all with this image (even LED on the board did not light up).

Checked TFT for physical problems - all looks fine. Any advice?

Thank you

Let's try this approach again. Which image did you download and how were you flashing it to the SD card?

I eventually figured it was a header soldering problem - double checked and re-soldered all the relevant pins and then the TFT was working (on the Stretch based image). But I had to try it on the Raspberry Pi 3 first to verify that TFT is not broken.

I still don't know why Jessie-based image did not boot, have not tried it again, since newer image worked.

Cool, glad you got it working. So at this point it seems most likely a software issue. It's possible some step of the easy install didn't work as expected. If you try it again and run in to issue, watch for any errors during the process and post them here.
