specifics of the Bi-color 8-8 matrix

by scaptal on Mon Dec 04, 2017 3:02 pm

I think I want to buy a Bi-Color 8-8 matrix for a project but I am not sure if it is completely fit for it, cause if I am not mistaking you need 4 pins to controll every single led in the 8-8 matrix, right? Another question is about the hardware it works with, on the 'learn' location for this part talked about the clock (and pin) of the arduino uno, does this differ on different arduinos? In short, can I use any arduino to work with this board? I need the board (and the rest of my project) to be quite small thats why I can't use an arduino uno.
sorry if I overlooked some things in the description of the Bi-Color 8-8 matrix but english is not my native language.
Eddit: Do the pins that connect to the Bi-Colar 8-8 matrix have to be analog pins?

The matrix needs 16 pins total. as shown on page 2 of the data sheet: https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/datasheet ... A883xx.PDF
Typically you would multiplex it one row or column at a time.

But it is much simpler to use our i2c backpack. That handles the multiplexing for you. The i2c bus is just 2 pins and can be shared with other i2c devices.: https://www.adafruit.com/product/902
