Lumen output of NeoPixel 1/4 60 rings

by Systembolaget on Wed Dec 06, 2017 7:36 am

Hej,

I want to use NeoPixel 1/4 60 rings https://www.adafruit.com/product/2873 warm white and https://www.adafruit.com/product/2874 natural white for a range of luminaires that will end up with interior architects and consumers in the U.S.

1. Where do I find that all-important figure for luminaires; the maximum lumen output of each ring?
2. Are the rings UL-certified or should I do the UL-certification process myself, to make luminaires with NeoPixel rings legal?

The manufacturer of the LEDs used in NeoPixel rings (DONGGUANG OPSCO OPTOELECTRONICS CO., LTD) provides neither lumen output or UL information. The data-sheet only gives Typical Relative Luminous Flux vs. Forward Current as required - but not the luminous flux (lumen) itself per LED.

Many thanks in advance!

I'm looking for this info also.
According to reviews on Amazon (http://amzn.to/2BFxRGV) for the 24 led ring, it is very bright.
Someone on youtube http://bit.ly/2BG2zj6 says the 16 is so bright it hurts his eyes.

Not very scientific data but it seems bright.

I'm just trying to figure out if this is as bright as a light bulb. Seems so and brighter.

Well, looking straight into a concentrated light-source and perceive "bright" is no real answer. Many unsuitable LED look bright, but actually emit hardly anything useful. One needs the total lumen output. A bedside or side table luminaire should output at least 700lm, for example, being dimmable also. I keep on pestering the manufacturers for lumen output. If I get the information, I will post it here of course.
