Crush test / driveway safety

by randomdude1234 on Mon Dec 11, 2017 11:50 pm

Hello,
I'm considering placing a few of the neopixels strips (the outdoor version) at ground level on my driveway at the very edge. However, I am concerned that there might be a time (or three) when someone in the family inadvertently drives over them (its happened to other lights) when pulling out and turning.

How resistant are these to being run over by a car? Has any one tried this? :)

Are they just going to get crushed? (ok) vs there being a risk of the strip catching fire (bad)?

Thanks!

With a proper power supply, you should have no worries about fire. You could add a fuse if you are worried.

They may well get crushed. I'd expect some broken solder joints. They do make aluminum channels designed to hold LED strips. That would give the strip a little more protection.

Thanks! I'll look at aluminum channels and into adding a fuse into the loop
