Potentially Defective 16 x 32 RGB LED Matrix (PID 420)

Hello,

I recently purchased a Medium 16 x 32 RGB LED matrix (Product ID 420, see here: https://www.adafruit.com/product/420). Out of the box, I noticed something that looks like it could be a defect in the manufacturing of the PCB. I attached an image so you can see more clearly:

The IC "U2" is doused in flux and there appears to be solder bridging together pins 5-6 and 7-8. I looked up the part number GM245TS and can't find any documentation. Looking at the pictures on the product's page on Adafruit, this seems to be a newer version of the board, so I don't really have a working reference (or a schematic). I'm nervous about connecting this board to power since there's really no way to know if this is actually a defect or intentional.

Could you check to see if any other units have this similar solder bridging on U2? Or is this a defective unit? I could also try reworking the solder to undo the bridges, but I don't want to risk damaging the board.

Best Regards,

Will Russotto

its worth trying it out, its very very unlikely you will damage any attached hardware, and these panels often get reworked so its not *too* shocking :)
