Which capacitor do I need for a matrix ?

by dorongutman on Sun Feb 11, 2018 12:07 pm

Hello,

I want to buy this 8x32 RGB LED matrix - https://www.adafruit.com/product/2294.
According to this guide to NeoPixels - https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neo ... e?view=all - I should use a 1000 µF, 6.3V capacitor or higher but I can't find such a capacitor in adafruit and I don't quite understand what does "or higher" means - lower µF higher volt ? Higher µF lower volt ?
If higher volt but lower µF - will this 4700uF 10v one work - https://www.adafruit.com/product/1589 ?

About the resistor between the microcontroller and the data on the matrix - this is what I found on adafruit https://www.adafruit.com/product/2781.

Thanks for your help.

The voltage of the capacitor isn't really all that important in this case as long as it is at least the same voltage you are working with. Higher voltages will work but will be physically larger. The capacitance rating is more important.

That capacitor should work fine.
