Current limit on Neopixel strips

by ktmoss01 on Wed Apr 11, 2018 11:49 am

I am wondering what the maximum current limit is on neopixel strips. Given a large enough power supply and enough RAM on a microcontroller, how much current can the traces on the 30LED/m strips handle before they fail? Is there a recommended limit to the number of strips that can be connected?

RGB pixels draw about 60mA max each. RGBW draw closer to 80mA each. A reasonable 'rule-of-thumb' is that no pixel should be more than about 150 pixels away from a power feed. For 5 meters of 60 pixel/meter strip, that means a power feed at both ends of the 5 meter strip.
