looks like i might have a defective Charlieplex matrix. one of these: https://www.adafruit.com/product/2947
as you can see in the image, two of the LEDs don't fully light up. instead, nearby LEDs do inadvertently in a cross shape. i assembled everything following the adafruit learning center guide, so i'm guessing this board just contains some defects & i need to do an exchange. the first matrix & controller i wired up worked perfectly, so it looks like it's just this one.
My question is, since i've already assembled the matrix & controller board (one of these: https://www.adafruit.com/product/2946), should i attempt to disassemble things (risking damage to the Charlieplex controller), or just exchange both products?

Yep. Sorry for the delay. Can you post a photo of the other side so we can check the soldering there.
What program are you running as a test?

Re: Defective Charlieplex Matrix?
here's solder joints on the backside:
i really like this little display; i'd be happy to exchange it for a new one. however, i'm very concerned about attempting to remove it & causing damage to the working controller that i've soldered to it.
let me know what my options are.
as for the code, looks like i forgot to keep the single pixel testing sketch i'd manually wrote from earlier. but the issue shows up with any code i try. here's the problem replicated using a the Adafruit IS31FL3731 "gfxdemo" sketch. this is in the middle of the "Hello World" scrolling text:

Re: Defective Charlieplex Matrix?
Thanks. That soldering looks excellent. It's probably just a bad pixel or something on the matrix. Let's just replace both.

Re: Defective Charlieplex Matrix?
I too am having trouble with dead LEDs on two charlieplex arrays with drivers, either in the panels or the matrix drivers (I followed the instructions exactly). I successfully built a cool white matrix last week and was like, great, I'll make a totally configurable graphical clock. But it looks like it's missing some teeth wit the 7-15 dead LEDs in each. I uploaded video to YouTube for you to check out (I just wanted you to be able to see the video and this thing doesn't allow video file uploads). I've attached a picture of my solders for one of them.
