Issues with 5" Backpack

by jfsir on Mon Dec 17, 2018 12:31 pm

Sorry for the repost but I received no answer to my post early last week and I am running out of time to get this issue fixed with something that has changed in your touchscreens.

I have 4 of your 5 inch screens, all purchased in the last 60 days having issues. I am using them with an upboard SBC. When I plug in what should be the same model screen, purchased a bit over a year ago, it works fine (also with a second one purchased around the same time). Both the touch and display work fine. When I plug in my recently purchased screen, it does not work. The way it is acting is that that computer is not detecting that any screen is plugged in on bootup. I get no POST or BIOS screen and the HDMI port is never turned on, like it would act if no screen were hooked up. If I boot the computer with a different external display plugged in, and wait until my OS fully boots, and then swap back to your screen, then yours works. Something has changed though causing it to no longer be recognized as a valid screen. Another data point, the touch led does blink when I move my finger on the screen, even though nothing is showing on the display.

Let's make sure the 4 recent ones and the older one are the same. Post photo(s) of the back side of each - the one that works + 1 of the recent ones. The 4 recent ones are probably all the same - so just pick one of those to work with for troubleshooting.

Sorry for posting on the wrong thread. New pictures attached. The back of the two screens are attached. In the bottom right, I can see the one that works has the number 1737 while the one that doesn't has the number 1830. With all cables and single board computer the same, none of the ones that say 1830 work while all the ones that say 1737 do.

we had a batch of boards without EDID's come thru. the ones in in stock now are fixed - on raspberry pi it doesnt matter because you force the resolution. but on some SBC's they care. email support@adafruit and ask for an RMA "FORPHIL" and we can get you new ones!

Hi! I have a similar issue with a 5" Backpack (#2232) that my lab purchased last year. Upon connecting the USB, the backlight briefly blinks and the PWR-GOOD LED shines a bright green, but none of the computers that I tested receive the appropriate signal when I connect the HDMI port, as neither windows 10, windows 7 or mac os x 10.6 detect that something has been plugged in. A laptop running lubuntu is detecting the display, but the screen remains dark. I tried creating the right (800 x 480) resolution mode on lubuntu and feeding it to the backpack but then again, nothing is displayed.

Unfortunately I'm having the same problem, exactly as Vincentius describes: powerlight, quick flash then nothing. Neither of my macs detect a signal even when I'm outputting 800 x480.
Thanks for your help

No, never worked.
Always exactly as described above - quick pulse of light when powered then nothing. Green power light on but not ‘seen’ by my computer. My apologies for not contacting earlier, was on the road a lot + never had time to troubleshoot until now.
