pitft screen won't wake up

by davet322 on Thu Dec 20, 2018 4:33 pm

Most of the time when the pitft goes to sleep you can wake it up with a touch of the screen.
Sometimes a touch will not wake it up.
Has happened on more than one pi+pitft pair.

Right now we have to power down machine and turn it back on to recover.

Any idea what can be done to fix this.

Is the no-wakeup occuring after a longer wait period? It sounds like maybe a screen saver is kicking in which you can get out of by pressing the screen. But after a longer period of time, the Pi may be going into some low power or rest mode where it's not reading the touch screen any more.

Yes is seem to happen after a longer idle time.
Is there a setting to disable this "low power or rest mode".
If not how do I report this as a bug in the software.

It's a software thing, so would depend on what you are using. What OS are you running on the Pi?

That's a pretty old image. We should have something that will work with newer OS images. Sorry - should've also asked - which exact screen do you have?

We use adafruit p/n 2441 purchased from amazon asin = B017PDWNKE with a raspberry pi 3 model b. If you think upgrading to latest os build will fix power off problem I will upgrade it.

Let's start by updating to a new image. Follow the instructions here:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pit ... -install-2

That may just fix the screen wake up issue also. But if it still does that, or if you have other install issue, report back here.

The new os version seems to have fixed the going to sleep issue.

I have another issue.
The images on the screen are scaled at 66%
On the previous operating system the same program filled the screen to 480x320.
What setting do I change to turn of scaling of the images on the screen.

The desktop looks like it's filling the entire screen. I'm not sure about the program with the buttons - what is it?

exactly the problem.
there are 320 pixels across the screen.
I don't want any scaling of the screen.
if the image won't fit I want it chopped off.

The program with the buttons that is shrunk by the os is my own application written in lazarus.
the form in lazarus is 320 pixels wide by 480 high to cover the whole screen.

It must be something with lazarus. Since the desktop is covering the entire display, the screen is being fully used.

I have come to the realization that I want to set the display resolution / overscan / freq options so that I have
a screen that is 320 pixels wide and 480 pixels tall. with rotate option in adafruit-pitft.sh set to 2 or 4 rotate 0° or 180°.
there is not an hdmi_mode that supports this set of number of pixels.
how do I get the right number of pixels like I did with old OS.

The higher the resolution I pick the smaller my application gets, so it is an os issue not an application issue.

I got it fixed by looking at this page. It was just an error in the /boot/config.txt file in the released image/script (adafruit-pitft.sh).
Please forward this bug report to the people that support this at adafruit.

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... f278ad756d

changed line
hdmi_cvt=720 320 60 1 0 0 0
to
hdmi_cvt=480 320 60 2 0 0 0

aspect ratio of 3.5 ptft display was measured to be 1.48
a 14:9 aspect ratio is closest at 1.55

then after reboot
start -> preferences -> raspberry-pi-configuration -> set resolution -> dmt mode 87 480x320
