oh, we did a big reworking of the SPI TFT library, and probably missed seomthing. we'll take a look!

Ah! I spotted it now. Fixed in 1.2.7 of the display library (GFX shouldn't need updating). Thank you for pointing it out.

Sorry, I've been busy. I believe the issue was that some of the required pins were not defined in the sample code. Ended up doing this:

#define TFT_RST   2
#define TFT_CS    5 // only for displays with CS pin
#define TFT_MOSI  13   // for hardware SPI data pin (all of available pins)
#define TFT_SCLK  14   // for hardware SPI sclk pin (all of available pins)

Arduino_ST7789 tft = Arduino_ST7789(TFT_DC, TFT_RST, TFT_MOSI, TFT_SCLK, TFT_CS); //for display with CS pin
