2.8" tft cap. touch versions

by alexpratte16 on Thu Feb 28, 2019 1:01 pm

hello, my company recently purchased a new stock of adafruit.com/product/1947
however, when we attached the new ones to the dev. board it didn't do anything other than turn on the backlight

the version that works is v. 2.3 of the display. I can not find a version number on the new board

I was wondering if the versions are compatible? and if so would this be a hardware or software issue?

I have exactly the same problem. I have two shields with no version number and neither of them work with a pre-programmed Arduino. I have a version 2.3 that works fine. has something changed in the new version that would cause this problem?

The touchscreen driver talks over I2C. Note this change made in Oct 2018:
As of Oct 26, 2018 this board has the I2C pullups connected to IOREF rather than 5V so it's more compatible with 3.3V boards.

(from bottom of product page)

Depending on what your setup is, that may account for what you are seeing.

Alright folks! I figured it out. THis worked for me, but others may find a different method.

Plus its also mentioned in this link https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-2-8 ... connecting

This version (Adafru~1) has the 2X3 header as a default to use SCK, MOSI and MISO pins, while the older version (v2.3) had those pins already connected to the peripheral single row pins.

Therefore, for the latest version I did this: (refer schematic ADAFRU~1 2019-09-17 10:57AM)
Connected the pin closest to the pin 3 of MIC5225-3.3, to 3.3V (since I am using MKR Zero)
Left the pin IOREF/VCCIO open
Left the adjacent 3V pin open
Soldered together all three positions of IOREF
Closed SJ1, Closed SJ2, Closed SJ3
After that, I ran the code as per https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-2-8 ... phics-test

IT worked!!

PS: It seems the schematic were uploaded today morning? That is really late isnt it? If that is indeed the case, the thread was opened in April, while the schematics were uploaded in September 19 2019, ie today :p

OK. I am a stupid. Seems like the date on schematics updates every download? Apologies!
