Mixing flat and bullet LED pixels

So this question is about these two products:

https://www.adafruit.com/products/738

and these

https://www.adafruit.com/products/322

It says in the documentation that you can’t simply link then to each other because the wiring is swapped. So my questions are:

1. Is it possible to use them strung together if I use something like this:

https://www.adafruit.com/product/578

And wire swap the wiring around so it lines up correctly?

2. Why was this done this way in the first place? I don’t understand why they would wire these differently from one another.

The project I am working on has serious space limitations, some
Spots have limited vertical space and other limited horizontal space, so being able to mix strands is needed.

Also, can anyone tell me the labels for the wiring connector points on the flat version. The use documentation which colors are used for power, ground, data and clock, but the casing is so opaque that I can’t read the label on the actual chip.

You could use those or you could just cut the ends off and wire them together. These were not made by the same company and there is no standard wiring pattern for them to follow.

Oh. I didn’t realize they weren’t made by the same people. I guess I was under the impression that items sold by Adafruit were put together by them. Not just resold. Cool.

So, as long as I wire the power to power, ground to ground, data to data and click to click then they should be fine?

I’m heading to my local electronics store tomorrow to see if I can find some small male to male connectors for these 4 wire cables. I need to add some space between some of them and also make so quick easy disconnects to allow the four pieces of the project to be taken apart if needed without affecting the other parts.

Thanks for the info!

One thing to note that could vary between the two ,is the color order may be rgb for one and brg etc for the other .
