Delay oled burn in

by sblantipodi on Mon Aug 05, 2019 6:34 pm

As title.
I'm using ssd1306 oled displays to show some static text/images.

I use the display like an information hub for all my sensors and various arduinos I have in the house.

I like to have the display that shows the info, unfortunately after only four months I can see a severe burn.in.

Is there a way to eliminate or reduce burn in effect in some way?

All LEDs exhibit reduced light output over time. It happens faster with OLEDs than other LED technologies. So if you display the same image for long periods of time, the active pixels will 'wear out' at a faster rate then the other pixels.

The best way to avoid this problem is to blank the display - or display something non-static whenever possible. You could use something like a PIR or a proximity sensor to detect when a viewer is present and blank the screen when nobody is there to see it.
