Run Length From Single Power Source

by jeffwillems on Tue Aug 20, 2019 2:01 pm

Hi I'm looking to use the Flexible RGB Neon-like LED Strip (linked below) for a stage design project. I was hoping to find out how long of a run of the 'neon' I could send from a single power source. Thanks.

It depends somewhat on how hard you drive them. At full intensity on all channels, it will pull about 20W at 12v. So you would need a power supply rated for about 1.7A per meter.

If you are driving many meters from a single supply, you will want to feed power every few meters.

Also a stage project in the making with about 20 sections of neon-like strips in different colors averaging 150" in length each. Questions:
- Can I purchase sections longer than a meter? Estimating a need of 150' total
- I need to fade in/out of two sections at a time. Is there a relay you recommend? Ideally automatic, but no need for extreme coding. Would rather avoid Arduino and the use of another computer/device just to run the stage decoration.
- What is the best way to end a cut strip? Can't seem to find any end caps.

Thank you!
