Help with LED vs neopixel brightness

I'm making a light diffusion table based off of a tutorial here:

I'm trying to figure what the light requirements are going to be. The tutorial uses super bright LEDs. I was hoping to make use of neopixels to add a moving light pattern effect on top of the diffusion effect. Would a 16 neopixel ring be bright enough to achieve something like this or does it just pale in comparison the super bright LEDs?

NeoPixels won't be bright enough. You'll need something more like the Pixie:
