Momentary push button functionality/wiring

by Thndracket on Wed Sep 11, 2019 3:21 pm

Hello! I have a question regarding the functionality of the 1479 lighted momentary push buttons, and wiring instructions would be appreciated as well. I want to have three sets of ten of these buttons to work different combinations of midi settings. It should be such that only one button in a set is lit at a time - the currently active one. I suppose this is software configurable?

For wiring: the heavier terminals (closer to the edge) are the switch contacts. There is no polarity to these. The smaller, more central, terminals are for the LED. They are marked + (for the LED anode) and - (for the cathode). This is just an LED so you need to treat it as such and use an appropriate resistor in series with it. Something between 200 ohms and 1K ohms. Control of the lighting is completely up to you and how you control it. It's just an LED.

An alternative would be https://www.adafruit.com/product/4020 which has many MIDI applications (and projects at learn.adafruit.com).
