Why are the old threads locked?

I have a topic that I started and it was resolved but now I want to make some changes and want to reply to it but its locked. what gives?

Idle threads are popular targets for spammers and it is possible that some spamming activity occurred on the thread in question. If you have a specific thread you would like to re-open, please post a link.

Same question for the thread embedXcode: Arduino and Adafruit on Xcode. Albeit started early 2012, it is still active.

I just wanted to announce that release 11.2.1 of embedXcode adds support for Xcode 11.1 on macOS 10.15 Catalina.
