Adafruit 24 RGB Neopixel LED Ring with Integrated Drivers Po

by nlsa on Tue Oct 08, 2019 11:33 am

Hi All,

I'm using one 1x Arduino UNO, 5x Adafruit 24 RGB Neopixel LED Rings and 1x DS3231 (RTC). (the fritzing bellow doesn't include the DS3231).
I need to run everything in parallel so I only used one 5V DC 3A Power Supply.
It seems that the power isn't enough, it drops to 2.5V-3V and after a moment the LEDs restart.
Can someone please suggest how much power do I need to give to run everything? Or how can I figure it out?

Thank you in advance,
N

First that many pixels need to be powered directly from a 5v supply, not through the 5v on the Arduino. The Arduino 5v goes through a regulator which can only handle about 500 mA. From the Neopixel uber guide on wiring https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neopixel-uberguide/basic-connections and on power usage https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neopixel-uberguide/powering-neopixels#estimating-power-requirements-5-11 From your description you may be close. This page shows how to reduce power usage. https://learn.adafruit.com/sipping-power-with-neopixels
