FadeCandy Custom Config.JSON on Mac

by WILL_POWER on Sat Nov 16, 2019 8:39 am

Hi,

I bought several FadeCandy's and I'd like to map them using one of the Processing examples.
When I launch the fcserver-osx executable, it uses the default config.json file.
How do I make it use my project config.json file ?
The example I found was for the raspberry pi but it does not work on Mac
( https://learn.adafruit.com/1500-neopixe ... rver-setup )
I also looked here: https://github.com/scanlime/fadecandy/b ... _config.md
But this: $ <path to fcserver> <path to config.json file>
has not worked for me...
Does anyone know how to do it ?
It would be a great help, thank you

Can you share exactly what you used here?

Problem solved, I had to write: ./fcserver-osx config.json
instead of: fcserver-osx config.json
./ is what's used in the Terminal on the Mac to run the files which I did not know.
Thank you for replying to my question, I deeply appreciate your service.
Will

Yah, that's a little Linux (which Mac uses under the hood) quirk. Your current directory, the one you are sitting in, is not included in the execution search path by default. So by just doing
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
some_file

it won't see it. So you have to be more explicit. The dot "." is a shortcut for the current directory. And the slash "/" is the directory separator. So you end up having to do things like:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
./some_file

Yes, it was a good thing for me to learn.

I’m now looking at the documentation to understand the mapping.

I seem to have issues with a couple of data pins... I will troubleshoot it and see... It may be my connections...

Thank you so much for your help !!
