7" Touchscreen with AR1100 Chip 200 touch limit

by GoBucks1234 on Thu Jan 09, 2020 8:25 pm

Okay, I just got for the holidays the Adafruit 7" Touchscreen with AR1100 chip. I tried following the instructions here: https://learn.adafruit.com/ar1100-resis ... the-ar1100

I downloaded the UPDD drivers and did a touch configuration. Everything seemed to be working great and I could use the touch feature a ton.

THEN: 200 touch limit exceeded warning pop up appeared saying I had to reboot to keep using. It appears it wants me to register and Pay to keep using the touch feature on this screen.

What is going on? This thing is expensive as is and now I need to pay again to get it working! Support would be appreciated.
If it matters, I am testing with a windows 10 laptop connected via USB and HDMI.

That's new.. I'll check with the rest of the team to see if anyone else has heard of this.

Thanks Mike.
I'm glad this is new. I'm always worried about posting a topic that is already solved and one where I could have found a solution in the forums.

hi that is odd but also we're not sure, what are UPDD drivers? the touchscreen is an HID device, once you calibrate it, it shows up like a mouse :)

UPDD driver from the website. I filled out their online form and they sent me an email with link:

"
Based on your request for a UPDD driver please find your UPDD software version 06.00.545.53595 linked below.
This link will be active for 7 days at which time the software will be deleted from our system so download ASAP.
http://v6download.touch-base.com/releas ... 00_545.exe
The following controllers are included in this package
Universal Pointer Device Driver "

On their site they seemed to have a number of programs but none seemed to match your tutorial so I assumed they just updated their software. I attached the photos of the settings. It seems you can either have the attached computer interpret the touch or just have it work as a mouse. I tried getting it back to the "mouse" mode so it would be universal but did not seem to find a way to do that.

hi, we're still very confused - why did you go to UPDD? you dont need a driver for touchscreen, its built into the OS

Guys,
I think there was a glitch on the microchip website and that is why there is so much confusion. I could not find that configuration utility software anywhere on their website so that is why I used the UPDD software (clicked the "drivers" link at the bottom of the mainpage). For my browser, the Documents tab on the microchip site, https://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/e ... umentation, was not loading anything, so all I saw under that tab was a blank page. This morning it is working, it may be due to the fact that I updated my browser, and I see the link for the configuration utility software. I am 100% certain I originally searched there and several times since starting this thread and nothing loaded.

For note, I wanted to calibrate the touchscreen. I did not want to update the driver but I could not find any software on that site that said configuration utility. The closest I found was the UPDD software package. That is why I installed it cause I thought it would have the configuration utility in the package, which it did, but it also automatically installed drivers.

Let me see if I can uninstall the drivers and software and if I can just get it to work like a mouse again. I'm leaving this morning for a week, so I don't know if I will get to this right away.
