Neopixel Ring, larger Diameter Maybe?

by StutteringJack on Sun Jan 12, 2020 10:13 am

For a personal project of mine I need these neopixel rings to be 2.5 inches or up to 3.5 inches in diameter, but i want to keep the lights at the same resolution as this:

Is there any products out there similar to this but with a wider diameter and same price?

We have 12, 16, 24 and 60 pixel rings: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3042

We also publish full CAD files which you can modify to build your own custom rings if desired: https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-NeoPixel-Ring

I've never really played with CAD files before, is there a tutorial online? And what is the process for this?

EagleCAD is a free download for hobbyist use. Autodesk has a series of tutorials for EagleCAD here: https://www.autodesk.com/products/eagle/learning-center
And there are plenty of 3rd party tutorials out there too.

There are a number of PCB fabrication houses that specialize in small quantity custom orders. OSHPark is one of them: https://oshpark.com/

We stock the 5050 pixels here: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1655
Mouser or Digikey would be good sources for the bypass capacitors.

Soldering surface mount components can be tricky, but the 5050 pixels have pretty widely spaced leads, so they are not too difficult.
