Neopixel choice question

by keesvanbemmel on Mon Jan 13, 2020 3:15 pm

Hi all,

I'm looking into making my own Thomas Bangalter helmet, similar to this post: https://learn.adafruit.com/3d-printed-daft-punk-helmet-with-bluetooth

However, I'd really like a full LED visor, as the original helmet. Now I have a choice which I'd like some advice on:
I want to be able to see through the helmet when wearing it and don't know which neopixel setup to purchase (if any?).

These questions come to mind:
Ideally I'd want the 8x32 neopixel matrix, but I don't think I'm able to see through it from the backside?
If not can I make it so (drilling holes, is there room to do this with the matrix still being functional of course)?
Am I better off buying a strip? Which one?
Or even buy separate neopixel lcds?

Any advice will do! Thanks in advance :)

Regards,

Kees.

You are probably better off using strips and mounting them with a slight gap between them. The 'skinny' strips would allow you to keep a higher pixel density, but still enough gap to see through.
