I did try that already, but the drive is full with the required tutorial files and won't allow to copy across. There is no mention of needing this extra file in the tutorial. Forgive the pun, but it's "driving" me mad now :)

You only have the needed files in CIRCUITPY and CIRCUITPY/lib?

This is exactly as per the tutorial page. https://learn.adafruit.com/watchmen-sis ... ggles/code

Has this tutorial been replicated has anyone else managed to get it to work?

Thanks,
Neil

I'll throw it together this morning. One thing to try is to look for and remove any hidden file the Mac may have placed on CIRCUITPY, and emptying trash.

Brilliant, thanks Dave.

Yes, I followed the empty Mac trash in troubleshooting and no difference. One thing to note is I had yet another board running circuit 3.1 preinstalled and it had 60kb of space. I ran the same code and lib files on it and a new module issue arose. It was missing rotaryio module. Then updated it to the latest circuit python and the space reduce to 50kb available space and now the same missing pypixelbuff missing module (rotaryio issue dissapeared). So sounds like a code issue to me. Also, please note the circuit overview wiring and the tut walkthrough wiring are slightly different.

Thanks for your time and very much appreciate you trying to reproduce this your side.
Best,
Neil

OK. I just wired it up and loaded the specified librarties (along with adafruit_pypixelbuf.mpy) and code. Works no problem. Running CircuitPython 5.3.1 from 2020-07-13.

Bugger, that means its me, I was holding out hope it was something else :)

OK, how can I get the adafruit_pypixelbuf.mpy on the drive? The drive shows as full.

But as you can see there is 8kb available and the adafruit_pypixelbuf.mpy is only 6kb

So it should fit no probs. What could this issue be?

Thanks for validating the project.

Also, which plan did you wire to? The circuit diagram or the the tutorial walk through?

I worked directly from the diagram.

My CIRCUITPY shows 11.8kB free after everything is loaded.

One thing I notice is that I have neopixel.mpy being 1.9k whereas yours says it's close to 3k.

Did you delete all hidden MacOS files? *Then* empty the trash. You might have to open a terminal and "ls -a" to see them... MacOS is all sealbelts and airbags these days.

Hi Dave

OK, maybe you should just send me your project :)

I have completely erased the drive using the storage.erase_filesystem()

I have to the best of my knowledge removed any hidden mac files. and tried to re-upload all files to the drive. (This time using the 2kb NEOPIXEL.mpy... there are 2x versions in the library download folder).

Here is the issue I am having. https://vimeo.com/neilhorner/review/444609764/185e9b804e

I guess the issue is now having to add the pypixelbuf.mpy to the drive... this wasn't needed in the original tutorial, is it due to the fact they were using an earlier version of circuitpy? Is there any way around needing this model?

Thanks,
Neil

Yes, it could be due to version differences. But there should be plenty of room.

That link doesn't open for me.

https://vimeo.com/444609764/c6b9ea8f90 try this.

So what am I doing wrong to be running out of space? I'm dragging and dropping the files individually. Did you do anything differently to get the files on to the drive?

Thanks

That's all I did. I'm using Linux, though.

Did you "ls -s" to see what's on CIRCUITPY?

Thanks Dave

I did check on the drive with find any file and USB clean, but nothing there.

Can I purchase the version you made that works? Is that possible... save you wasting the work you have done. :)

Here's the properties on my CIRCUITPY. That's with all the hidden files removed.

Can you run "ls -Rla <path to CIRCUITPY>" and paste the result.
