Power consumption/datasheets for 12V inverter

I'm trying to switch this (2.5m HB EL Wire https://www.adafruit.com/product/410 ) powered by this ( 12V wired inverter https://www.adafruit.com/product/448 ) using this (PN2222 bipolar transistor https://www.adafruit.com/product/756 ) - on this (half sized breadboard https://www.adafruit.com/product/64 )

Does this make sense? How should I verify that all these components will work correctly together?

The EL wire page says it would take about 0.2A with a 2xAA battery pack - so I guess that means roughly 1.5V*2*0.2A == 0.6w? So at 12v it'd be 0.05A? I'm reading 0.1A on my multimeter when connecting the EL wire to the inverter - does that sound correct?

I tried reading the datasheet for the transistors, but have a hard time figuring out if (assuming my math/measurements above are correct) 12v @ 0.1A through the collector/emitter of the transistor is supported/safe/not going to overheat?

If I'm switching the transistor from a Particle Photon ( https://www.adafruit.com/product/2721 ) data out pins - would that fully open the transistor, so the output would go up to the desired 0.1A?

Bit of general feedback for adafruit itself - be handy if the inverter and the breadboard had datasheets linked.
