Order Confirmation No: 2266040-3812165224

Hello!

I am writing regarding my purchase of 1 x 2.2" 18-bit color TFT LCD display with microSD card breakout[ID:1480] =
$24.95

Unfortunately, I couldn't get this running during COVID and only had a chance to test this now.

Today I connected this up as per the article on how to wire this up and ran the graphics test sketch.
Wiring article: https://learn.adafruit.com/2-2-tft-disp ... ino-wiring

Output from test:

***
Booting
tft started.
Display Power Mode: 0x0
MADCTL Mode: 0x0
Pixel Format: 0x0
Image Format: 0x0
Self Diagnostic: 0x0
Benchmark Time (microseconds)
Screen fill 1351772
Text 168552

Horiz/Vert Lines 115560
Rectangles (outline) 76748
Rectangles (filled) 2806676
Done!
Setup done.

I noticed some of the pins may have not been properly soldered on the contact for the TFT flex cable?

Is there anyway I can get a replacement or refund?

Thanks, M.

Not seeing any obvious issue with the ribbon cable soldering. And the soldering on your header pins looks fine.

Can you post a photo of your setup showing how you have everything connected to your main board.

Make sure the power rails on your breadboard are not split.

Then try moving the power pin to 5V instead of Vin on the Arduino:

Vin works as I'm passing 5vdc from my bench power supply. No issues there.

OK, I've made the change, but same result. I've used my Fluke to make sure there's 5V input.

Hi - can you refer my image again please - this tiny breadboard is not suffering from any rail issues;
it's simply 5Vdc on one side, and GND on the other.. As said before, I've verified that voltage
supply is connected correctly. My arduino has no problem obtaining temperature details from
the attached sensor (on the blue breadboard), which is connected in the same way.

OK, might still be some unknown connection issue. Or possibly interference with the other devices.

For the sake of troubleshooting, please re-stage just the TFT on one of the breadboards and wire directly per the guide wiring. Test just the TFT standalone. The GFX test from the guide should be a good test, which sounds like what you've already been using.

Ok, I’ve done that and also reflashed it, only the GFX test firmware. No luck.

I could ship it back but the trouble with COViD is local Postal services aren’t running like they used to. It’s unlikely you’ll receive it any time soon.

Thanks

Is the screen totally black? Or is it white - like the backlight is at least coming on when powered?

I just wired one of these up to an UNO (closest I have to a Diecimila) and ran it per the guide wiring and using the GFX demo. I also got a blank (white) screen! But I got it to work once I wired up a pin (5) to reset and changed this line:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
Adafruit_ILI9341 tft = Adafruit_ILI9341(TFT_CS, TFT_DC, 5);

Try that and see if it helps. If that doesn't work, it'll be worth then trying software SPI also. But run that test first and see what happens.

Did you try the suggestion above about wiring in reset and changing the code to use it?

Resetting the display didn't seem to help but previously I got the LCD backlight to turn on, but the display remains completely black.

Do you have any sample code to bitbag SPI in software?

Thanks.

Please post a photo of your setup showing the reset wire connection. Let's stick with hardware SPI for now. I got it working that way with the exact same setup. But it did require wiring and using the reset line.
