Raspberry Pi 7" TFT - Composite video input?

by navillus5 on Sat Aug 22, 2020 10:55 pm

Hi -

I am putting together a ground station for my drone. The video receiver outputs composite video. Instead of purchasing a new monitor, I was wondering if there was a way that the Raspberry Pi 7" TFT display could be modified to accept composite video?

It depends on which one you have. The two dominant flavors of composite video are the NTSC and PAL formats, and displays that understand one will usually understand the other.

We have several 7" TFTs in the shop, some of which support NTSC/PAL. We also have others that only do HDMI, and the RasPi Foundation's 7" display uses a completely different signal protocol.. it doesn't speak NTSC/PAL or HDMI.

Hi MIke -

Thanks for the reply. That is what I thought, but I wanted to be sure before I went ahead and purchased something else. I have ordered an inexpensive rear view camera monitor that I will be using for some initial testing.
