64x32 RGB Matrix 4mm vs 5mm Display Readability ...

by sealyon on Mon Oct 12, 2020 1:48 pm

What are the readability differences between the 4mm and 5mm matrix displays? What would be the estimated distances you should be away from the displays to be able to see them clearly? Of course, I understand this is based on how well you see but, in general, can anyone provide some estimated distances? What would be the minimum distance you could use the displays at? I'd like to use the 5mm for the slightly larger size but my application will be used fairly close-up, say 3-6 ft.. Would that work for the 5mm display? Appreciate any info. Thanks.

One of our 64x32 Matrix documents has a blurb about distance and viewing optimization.

The 3mm - 5mm are good for closer range while 6mm for further away.

This is a a lot like our 6mm Grid 32x32 RGB LED matrix panel, but it's twice as wide and looks really
good from far way. If you are looking for a 64x32 matrix, but at a closer view range, check out
our 3mm pitch, 4mm pitch, or 5mm pitch 64x32 RGB LED Matrices.

Thanks. Well, looking for something a little more specific than "close" and "far away". Can anyone really use that type of information? As I stated, my application will need to use the display from 3-6 ft.. Could I maybe use a 5mm? Another question is why is the 5mm twice as expensive as the 4mm? It's just a couple inches bigger and I really can't see anything else that it brings that is different than the 4mm.
