3.5" PiTFT HDMI Output Not Working

Post by vedsvde »

I've got a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB and have retried the installation process linked [/https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pit ... -install-2]here[/url] over 4 times now. The screen will display the console with no problem but as soon as I switch it to HDMI mode, the screen goes completely black. The output on my HDMI monitor also becomes very garbled.

What can I do to fix it? The screen works since it displays the console with no problem. The HDMI output isn't working though :(

Can you clarify what you mean by "switch to HDMI mode". Are you re-running the install script and selecting the mirror HDMI option?

Thanks. And then are you running the single command line option? Or via the interactive process (which is further down on page)?

This is what my monitor looks like. The actual PiTFT itself has a black screen.

Hello, What happens if you don't have an HDMI cable plugged in and you boot?

Same problem here. Used...
> sudo python3 adafruit-pitft.py
to reconfig from console (worked fine) to mirror HDMI (blank PiTFT)
I don't have any HDMI devices.

GB.

Ok, I finally got time to test this, when booting without HDMI plugged in the TFT screen is fine, to my great surprise.

Another note, the installer no longer works with older versions of Raspberry Pi OS, the so called "last known working" version from last December fails. Error is something along the lines of "unable to update apt indexes"

Hi o_spengler,
Which version of OS gave you the working TFT screen please ?
Is it safe to update to the latest version ?
Thanks, GB

The latest version gave a working TFT with no HDMI plugged in.
Safe to upgrade? Eh... maybe?

Mine is still broken, what was the solution for this?
Havin HDMI connector disconnected, doesn't sound like a final solution, I can connect and disconnect from inside the place I have it
