Dotstar Lifetime Rating
Is there technical data available as to the number of hours the Dotstar LEDs can be run before the LED itself starts to fade/deteriorating? Something like a L70 spec that gives the number of hours to the point where the LED is putting out 70% of its original brightness.

Re: Dotstar Lifetime Rating
@glowman,
I've not found a specific number for the DotStar strips, but in general the LM70 for general LED strips appears to be in the 60,000+ hours range. That would be more than 6 years of continuous usage.

Re: Dotstar Lifetime Rating
Thanks for that article, and that is the kind of info I'm looking to get. What are those specs for this Dotstar LED?
Not all LEDs hit the L70 60,000 standard. There's many standards that are higher and lower than L70/60,0000 hours Which is precisely my question, what spec do the Dotstars meet over their rated temperature range.
Adafruit or whoever supplies adafruit with LEDs should have this kind of test information available?
Thanks

@glowman,
The DotStars are typically made of Epistar 5050 RGB LEDs.

Re: Dotstar Lifetime Rating
Hi mikeysklar, I'm confused why the exact information isn't available?
You've sent me a several generic internet articles, but I think it would be easier to just get the datasheet information for the specific LEDs that Adafruit uses.
Does Adafruit not know what LEDs they're using?

@glowman,
The datasheets we have are limited to basic dimensions and drive specs. They don't provide lifetime ratings that you are asking for. You can checkout these three datasheets for the SK9822 5mm chips and APA102 2mm, but I wasn't able to find any lifetime related data.

Would adafruit have the information I'm looking for?

Re: Dotstar Lifetime Rating
I'm sorry this is the extent that we (Adafruit) have available to us on the DotStar lifetime.
