HT16K33 7 segment backpack

by Le0pa_RD on Sun May 16, 2021 7:33 am

Hello,
I recently purchased an HT16K33 I2C backpack board to drive a 7 segment display.
I can’t get it to work with this display https://www.tme.eu/Document/63751340e1c0994a0e17aeb2d22d3643/OPD-Q5620UPG-BW.pdf
This display has 12 connections instead of 14 but looking at the datasheet I just didn't connect pin 7 and 8 on the board (":" led connection)

I connected the board to the Arduino I2C and I uploaded the Adafruit library example for the backpack 7 segment but it doesn’t work, the display only shows really dim light of the first 3 digits.
Help Please

That datasheet describes both a common anode and a common cathode type display. Which do you have?

I think it's a common anode

The 7-segment backpacks are designed for common-cathode displays like these: https://www.adafruit.com/product/865

Is there any way to make it work with a common anode display?

In theory - probably. But you would need to do some major surgery on the board to re-route all the traces and completely re-write the driver. It would be much simpler to just use a common cathode display.
