Which exact JST is used for Adafruit NeoPixel Digital RGB LE

by mcandre on Sun Jun 13, 2021 11:49 am

The product description vacillates between 2-pin JST and 3-pin JST connections. Should I buy a 2-pin JST receptacle or 3-pin for this product?

Neopixel strips have 3 connections: 5v, ground, data.

You can use a 3 pin connector and run all three through that.

Alternatively, if you are using a separate power supply for the strip (pretty much required with a meter+ strip) you can use 2-pin connectors: data+ground to your controller board and 5v+ground to the external power. Note both grounds connect to the strip's ground connection.

You can do the wiring whatever way you like as long as the connections are correct and the strip can get enough current.

As for that product listing, I get the impression that the exact connectors will vary depending on manufacturer, batch, etc.
