circuitpython led animations "chase" help

im trying to figure out how to get the chase animation from https://learn.adafruit.com/circuitpytho ... animations
to run multiple colors instead of just green leds chasing each other around. if i can get multiple colors without rainbow then i can start making patterns without animation strings.
any ideas or tips?

Which specific program are you asking about and what do you see when yo run it?

i dont exactly understand what you mean by program. im using the led animations library in a raspberry pi 4 running retropie.
i have a chase.py script running groups of 4 green pixels, 2 off. i want group 1 to be red, group 2 to be blue, group 3 to be green.
if i run the current script everyting is green and the animation is set to chase. using the example from the page i originally linked to. so no program, just an animation script
