Powering an EL panel from an EL wire inverter

Post by elmwoodelec »

Hi - we've got a customer who appears to be trying to power an Adafruit EL panel from a 2xAA pocket inverter. This is what they're getting for output:

Do the panels need the more powerful 4xAAA pocket inverter to light up, or is this panel likely faulty?

We normally recommend 12v (8xAA) sized portal inverter for the panels. Based on the 20cm x 10cm aqua panel.
Comes with a matching high power 12V inverter and a female DC jack so you can plug it directly into a 12V supply. The inverter is a 'potted waterproof type' and is thus very quiet (no resonating cavity!). This panel is not going to run on our pocket inverter, you really need to have 12V! The full panel draws about 210 mA from a 12V supply. For portable use, we suggest a 8xAA battery holder
