Fixing RGB Lcd

Post by Dor159 »

Hi
I have an adafruit 20*4 RGB Lcd, I accidentally turned on the PS on 10v for a few seconds and its not working normally after that.
Any idea on what component got burned? And if it's replaceable.
Thanks :)

These displays have 3 mostly independent circuits - any of which could experience damage due to over-voltage: The backlight, the LCD control logic and the LCD driver.

From the video, it looks like your backlight and LCD driver are still working (at least the red channel anyway).
Given the scrambled appearance of some of the characters on the display, it is likely that the display control logic sustained some damage. The logic circuits on the display are only rated for 5.5v, so exposure to 10v would likely cause permanent damage.

The logic circuitry is contained under those black blobs of epoxy on the back of the board. It is not replaceable.
