POV Head Shaker

Post by acornranch »

Good Afternoon,

I've created a MAKER Club at my high school here in Pennsylvania and we've been working on gathering ideas for projects to do this year. We've already done a few 3D printing/design ones with our elementary school but it's time to upgrade to our own projects now that I am putting the finishing touches on our new STEAM lab (outfitted with many lovely things from Ada).

One project we'd like to do is make a POV display similar to this one:

My goal is to create projects that can become "installations" throughout the school to show off how the different aspects of STEAM play together. We are also planning to do one using the Capacitive Touch hat as well.

My question is, according to the above site for bigPOV they based their design off of

https://learn.adafruit.com/light-painti ... i?view=all

Is that still going to be the best practice for making a POV? I know a lot has been changing in the types of LEDs and their drivers. For this one I want a simple display that will have students standing, staring at it, and shaking their heads for my own amusement. After the dizziness wears off I want to discuss with them what's actually going on with POV (I'm a math teacher!) Maybe in the spring when I have the new engineering class we will expand to putting it on a bike, doing some light panting, etc.

Thank you for any advice that anyone could give!

~Jeremy
