Adafruit Motorshieldv2.3 wiill it work with a Raspberry pi

Post by Whimick »

Dear Forum,

I rencently purchased a Adafruit Motorshield v2.3/1438

Before I start solderind things, will this work with a Raspberry pi? or do I need to return it to the supplier?

If it will not work with a Pi what should I have ordered?

If it will work, how do I connected to correctly to a Raspberry Pi?

Hoping it will work

Regards Michael

The Motor HAT is designed to plug directly into the Pi. If your supplier will do an exchange, that would be the simplest route.

But the MotorShield V2.3 electronics are almost identical, so it can be connected to work with the Pi.

You will need wires to connect GND, +3.3v, SDA and SCL.
And, you will need to change the logic voltage jumper from 5v to 3.3v.

The logic voltage jumper consists of 3 small solder pads just above the 3v and 5v pins on the board (see below)
Cut the small trace that connects the center pad to the 5v pad.
Then bridge the center pad to the 3.3v pad with a blob of solder.
