Metro vs Metro Mini

Post by samstk »

Hello,

I would like advice on whether the Metro or Metro Mini would provide a more robust platform for students. For the past few years, we have focused on using the Metro Minis as the basic platform for our introductory engineering program as well as for advanced projects, mainly because the form factor works so well with breadboards. Though going through our "Broken Bin" I recently counted fourteen dead Metro Minis. We need to place an order for more "Arduinos". Would you recommend Metro or Metro Minis?

Also, what is your suspicion as to the most likely cause of death. It would be helpful to know what sort of warnings to give the students to avoid more dead Metro Minis.

Thanks,
Sam

Not sure what failure modes you are seeing. Overloading the 5v regulator is one possibility.

The Mini has a smaller regulator. If you have a lot of 5v circuitry, you may need a separate 5v source. Other than that, both boards are derived from the same Arduino UNO R3 reference designs.
