Where to start...

by tthorj on Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:21 pm

Need help with choosing a path for my high school seniors from building/programming V4 and V5 VEX robotics for years to getting into microcontrollers (adafruit). If you had $1000 and about a dozen high school seniors who are currently learning python in codeacademy pro, what adafruit systems would you get into first, second etc. My goal is to have a variety of sensors/servos at their disposal to create devices over a semester or so for capstone projects. We would like to get into basic electrical circuits (have some breadboard stuff already) and learn to solder as a prerequisite (most have little experience at that level). I'm thinking of circuit express to first break into this realm and then expand to the feather system. Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated. thx

I would look at the CircuitPlayground Bluefruit (CPB) https://www.adafruit.com/product/4333 which is the same price as the CircuitPlayground Express (CPX), but the MCU has far more memory which makes it much better for CircuitPython use. Beyond that the CPB has a more advanced core (M4 instead of M0) ,bluetooth, hardware floating point, and the same array of sensor and I/O capability. That could nicely be extended using the Crikit https://www.adafruit.com/product/3093
