HDMI to USB

by MrsMac on Tue Feb 23, 2021 10:26 pm

I can't find a way to to display my Pi screen for my students on anything larger than the 7 inch monitors that came with our kits. This makes it really hard to demonstrate anything on the screen.

The overhead project takes HDMI input, but it is 10 feet overhead, and connected to my computer though cables on the ceiling. I considered running a Pi "headless" from the computer, but I think I would get in trouble with the IT department. It looks to me like this product would work for me:

Can I use that to connect the HDMI output from a Pi to the USB port on the computer, and have it display? If so, the projector should pick up anything displayed on my screen.

I find the easiest way to display the contents of a Pi from another machine would be to connect to the Pi using VNC. You can enable VNC in raspi-config.

I would not try to use another piece of hardware for the display if the above works for you.

IT won't let us use VNCs.

Gotcha.

Since VNC is not an option two other ways to do it.

1) We do sell an HDMI to USB adapter you could use with your laptop to feed in the HDMI signal from the Pi which sounds like what you wanted to use:

2) You can run 10' + HDMI cables and they do work fine.
