Flow rate for 5-6V DC peristaltic pump

by bioprinting_bean on Tue May 11, 2021 2:06 pm

Hi, I work in a lab where we are trying to create a device to have media flow through microfluidic channels to cells. We will be using a raspberry pi 3 B+ and a qunqi L298N moter drive to control the adafruit 5/6V DC peristaltic pump.

We are curious as to what is the smallest amount of volume that can be dispensed from this pump? Additionally, what is the lowest flow rate that this pump can go? Also does it remain accurate at those smaller flow rates?

The flow will depend upon the viscosity of the fluid, the condition of the pump tubing (it does wear with time) as well as the geometry of the flow-path. Microfluidic channels will likely present substantial resistance to flow. You would need to test the pumps in your system to measure the actual flow rate. With calibration, you might achieve milliliter-level dispense precision. But probably not micro-liter level. For microliter precision, a syringe pump would be a better choice.
