Interfacing Adafruit 1596 and BBB or BBGW

by bdohler on Wed Oct 12, 2016 11:27 pm

Hello all,

I have an Afafruit 1596 5.0" TFT LCD display which I am trying to run directly from the BBB or BBGW. I've tried both. The BBB and BBGW both have other 800x480 24-bit RGB capes which are simply plug and play. I've followed the wiring convention at:

http://www.4dsystems.com.au/productpage ... DCAPE-43(T)_datasheet_R_1_20.pdf

I also have the Adafruit 1932 breakout board to provide the backlight current to the backlight on the 1596.

I've connected the following signals to the BBB:

LCD_DATA[0..15]
LCD_HSYNC
LCD_VSYNC
LCD_CLK

I've tied the following signals to 3V3

LCD_ON/OFF
LCD_DE

I've added the .dtbo for a similar 7" cape with capemgr using the instructions at http://elinux.org/Capemgr. The exact .dtbo is BB-BONE-LCD7-01-00A3.dtbo. I realize it may not be exact with time timing parameters etc, but shouldn't it be something other than white?

On power up, the LCD screen goes white and the BBB does not present itself to my laptop.

If anyone has any insights, they would be much appreciated.

It worked!

I didn't make any changes... it just worked the second time around. The change does not persist between power ups, however it runs immediately with the given .dtso.

Good luck to everyone attempting similar :D
