Please Help with BeableBone Black Wireless

by marcusnicolas on Tue Apr 11, 2017 10:49 pm

I followed the directions to flash the beaglebone black wireless. The thing is the directions online are actually for the beaglebone black. So I tried it a few times and the BBBW does not flash to eMMC. Only the first LED flickers after all 4 light for a brief period of time. Can anyone help me to know what I am doing wrong. I am trying to flash it to the eMMC so that i no longer have to use the card and also so that I can have access to all the other software like opencv, apache, etc.... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Which image did you try?

Please try the latest BeageBoard.org image for the BeagleBone Black Wireless: Debian 8.7 2017-03-19 4GB SD LXQT

If you have trouble flashing the image, then you may want to try etcher.io.

and don't forget this little gem ( I know I did) from the BeagleBone page:
To turn these images into eMMC flasher images, edit the /boot/uEnv.txt file on the Linux partition on the microSD card and remove the '#' on the line with 'cmdline=init=/opt/scripts/tools/eMMC/init-eMMC-flasher-v3.sh'. Enabling this will cause booting the microSD card to flash the eMMC. Images are no longer provided here for this to avoid people accidentally overwriting their eMMC flash.

Good point about modifying that file.

Robert C. Nelson does still build the eMMC flasher images and they are linked from eLinux.org.

For example, the latest LXQT Debian Jessie eMMC flasher image is BBB-blank-debian-8.7-lxqt-4gb-armhf-2017-04-09-4gb.img.xz

Just recently updated by flashing with recent image. I believe the BeagleBone Black Wireless is supposed to automatically power down after the flash is complete. I started the flash, walked away for coffee and when I came back, the BBB-W was off. After reboot was able to confirm new image had been flashed. It takes a few moments but the image should flash from microSD when powered up with user/boot button depressed. Don't disconnect power, let flash complete and BBB-W should power down when it's done. I messed up my first attempt at performing by trying to power down before process was complete. When it's done all the LEDs should turn off and device will turn off. It took maybe 15-20 mins to complete. Not exactly sure how long button should be depressed after power is applied but a few seconds seemed to work. Most likely the process starts immediately upon boot as soon as button depressed is detected. I hope you will be able to get it going.

Hi,

I bought a BBBW, and shocked. I have the same wireless problem.

Cannot see wlan on ifconfig.
connmanctl technologies mentions about ethernet only.

Tried all images advided or not advised.

But no solution to start wifi.
Any idea?

I'd like to know what system software is running on your BeagleBone Black Wireless. Please paste the output of these commands:
uname -a
cat /etc/dogtag
cat /etc/debian_version
cat /sys/devices/platform/bone_capemgr/slots
cat /proc/cmdline

Here are connmanctl commands that should enable wireless:
How to Setup WiFi on the BeagleBone Black Wireless

The example from that page:
sudo connmanctl

connmanctl> enable wifi

Enabled wifi

connmanctl> scan wifi

Scan completed for wifi

connmanctl> services

connmanctl> agent on

Agent registered

connmanctl> connect wifi_506583d4fc5e_544e434150413937414239_managed_psk

Passphrase? xxxxxxxxxxx

connected wifi_506583d4fc5e_544e434150413937414239_managed_psk

connmanctl> quit
