no wifi network in focus for pi zero w on noobs v2.4

by spicypenutsauce on Mon Apr 17, 2017 12:34 am

I puchased two pi zero w with camera from adafruit on Mach 17, 2017 which I did not received until a week later. One of the pi zero worked OK on the noobs v2.4 with Wifi network in focus and I could click the Wifi network and connected it to my router. The other pi zero W did not work the same. There is no Wifi network icon in focus.

The invoice number is 1396126. Order date: Friday 17 March 2017.

2 x Raspberry Pi Zero W Camera Pack.

I attached the invoice, the noobs v2.4 screen shot showing no Wifi Network in focused for this Pi Zero W, the front and back of the board.

I like to know if I can get a replacement board.

Thanks

Please post the output from `dmesg` on the Zero-W that doesn't see any nearby networks.

Something unusual is happening there.. according to the messages, the OS thinks it's running on a Pi2:

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
[    0.000000] Linux version 4.4.50+ (dc4@dc4-XPS13-9333) (gcc version 4.9.3 (crosstool-NG crosstool-ng-1.22.0-88-g8460611) ) #970 Mon Feb 20 19:12:50 GMT 2017
[    0.000000] CPU: ARMv6-compatible processor [410fb767] revision 7 (ARMv7), cr=00c5387d
[    0.000000] CPU: PIPT / VIPT nonaliasing data cache, VIPT nonaliasing instruction cache
[    0.000000] Machine model: Raspberry Pi Model B Rev 2
Try writing a fresh copy of the latest Raspbian to the SD card and see if that helps. As it is, the kernel isn't even looking for a Wifi chip.

I tried a newly made SD Card made from the posted noobs v2.4 and the dmesg still showing the same 'Machine model: Raspberry Pi Model B Rev 2'. This same SD Card when used on my other pi zero w board, it showed 'Machine model: Raspberry Pi Zero W Rev 1.1' . It looks like there is wrong SOC installed on my bad pi zero w.

So I tried 3 Noobs v2.4 SD Card on this bad pi zero w board, all showed the 'Raspberry Pi Model B Rev2' CPU.

Thanks,

Manot

Thank you.

I'm not sure what's going wrong there, but it does sound like a discrepancy in the hardware. Send a note containing a link to this thread and your order number to support@adafruit.com. The folks there will get you a replacement RasPi Zero-W.
