Adafruit 2.8" PiTFT how to get working on Zero W

hi

have tried Easy Install

have tried the 3 Step Install that follows the Easy Install

have tried various methods gleaned from posts in forum here

from what I can make out current 'Stretch' version of the OS breaks things

does anyone have a recipe that works?

For now, the best solution is to use the last release of Jessie and install PiTFT support on top of that. You can get older Raspbian OS images here:

http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/images/

Also, you may need to run the "installsdl.sh" script that downports SDL to version 1.2. Otherwise your touchscreen will not work with pygame.

In current distributions it really isn't necessary to use the Ada Fruit kernel, any of the more recent distributions of Raspbian have everything in the kernels already to support the PiTFTs you just need to do a little editing of the /boot/config.txt file and /boot/cmdline.txt file.

& then provides this config text

It now boots into a pile of green text on the pitft - but then stops on a blank black screen with a '-' char at the top


Any guidance on how to proceed would be good.

It starts to make more sense after you've read a few hundred.. ;-)

The OS says it can't find the touchscreen driver:
