Hi there,

I ordered the 1 x PiTFT Plus Assembled 320x240 2.8" TFT + Resistive Touchscreen[ID:2298].

The resistive touchscreen doesn't respond to touch after I went through the easy install process. The screen works but using a stylus or a finger does not create any effect. I have a Jessie model Raspberry pi.

I found another forum where Adafruit had the person go through a number of steps like taking a picture, etc. Please let me know what you need me to do.

Yep, we check some diagnostic information to see if we can get things working.

Post the contents of your /boot/config.txt file, and the output from the command `dmesg`, both between CODE tags please.

Start by logging into the RasPi. If you’re using the command-line interface (text only, no GUI), you can enter commands directly. If you’re using the GUI, open an xterm window (there should be a button for it on the menu bar), and use that to enter commands.

The command you want is:

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
sudo sh -c “dmesg >/boot/dmesg.txt”
Then shut the RasPi down and plug the SD card into a desktop computer. It will mount as a small removable drive named BOOT, and will contain several files. Two of them will be named ‘config.txt’ and ‘dmesg.txt’.

Copy the contents of those files and paste them between CODE tags please. The CODE tags are much easier for us to read than just attaching the files to the post.

This thing is super tiny and doesn't plug into my laptop. You guys have one heck of a bad return policy. How do I get the stuff from the sd card if there's no place to plug it in?

Our return/replace policy cover production defects and early component failures, and we verify those with a debugging process. We don’t authorize returns/replacements for configuration problems or general “it doesn’t work the way I expected” issues. For those, we provide free tech support.

If your computer doesn’t have a built-in SD reader, there are versions that plug into a USB port. We have some in the shop:

but you can also get them from places like Walmart.

Hey Walmart is p far from where I live and I'm working.

In the spirit of the tech support aspect, do you have any general guesses as to any quick change I might want to try first to get the touch working. Like, assuming it's not defective, what's the best bet for powering the thing on with my keyboard plugged in and trying to get the touch screen to work?

I'm limited by the information I can get from you, and so far I don't have anything with diagnostic value.

I need to know if the software to run the PiTFT has been installed properly, if that software is seeing the PiTFT when the RasPi boots, and if the pieces that should be running are actually running. Until we find some way to get information from the RasPi to a place where I can read it, we're stuck.

I just learned to mount a USB (I'm using the thing for non touch purposes to at least put it to use). Can I transfer whatever you're looking for to that and view it on my desktop?

If you can log into the RasPi, execute the command:

dmesg >dmesg.txt
and copy that file onto a USB thumb drive, then yes, that will work. Move the thumb drive to your desktop computer, open the file, and paste the contents between CODE tags please.

Looks like maybe your are using an older (~2016) version of Raspbian:

Try updating to a newer release of Raspbian. Use the one suggested from the Easy Install setup:

Once you download the .zip file and extract the .img, you can install that to the SD card using Etcher:

And then run the TFT Easy Installs script again.
