Adafruit RGB Matrix + Real Time Clock HAT for Raspberry Pi /

by atreyu on Tue Sep 10, 2019 8:05 pm

Hi,
I am trying to use the RTC clock of the "Adafruit RGB Matrix + Real Time Clock HAT for Raspberry Pi" following the nice tutorial:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adding-a-rea ... t-rtc-time

I am dealing with a Raspbian 9 (Stretch),
When editing /boot/config.txt
there is already the line:
dtoverlay=i2c-rtc,ds1307

I haven't added it, it was already at the end of the file in this form:

[...]
# Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)
dtparam=audio=on
dtoverlay=i2c-rtc,ds1307
#core_freq=500
#sdram_freq=500
#over_voltage=2

The problem is:
sudo i2cdetect -y 1 (as prompted later in the tutorial)
shows the '0x68' and not the UU

Do you have any suggestion for me?

Best Regards,
Angel Espeso

The 'UU' means the OS has reserved that device for some program that's already talking to it.

Can you get the RTC to communicate if you use the address 0x68?

Running:

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
#!/usr/bin/python3

import smbus
i2c = smbus.SMBus(1)

try:
 print("OK :", format(0x68, '02x'), i2c.read_byte_data(0x68,0x00))
except:
 print("BAD:", format(0x68, '02x'))

ends with:
OK : 68 69

I have no spidev* at /dev/

Have you enabled I2C and SPI in ‘raspi-config’?
